A Shared Commitment to Reducing Food Waste
We were honoured to welcome Senator Yonah Martin to Food Link Society. During her visit, she toured our community Food Link Society kitchen. Senator Martin showed genuine interest in our food-recovery programs, our partnerships, and the impact of reducing food waste. We’re grateful for her time, and her encouragement as we continue working toward a more food-secure and connected community.

Collaboration and Compassion in Action
The visit of Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West to Westwood Elementary, and his remarks about the impact of our work, once again demonstrated that the true strength of a
community lies in collaboration and compassion. At Food Link Society, we rescue surplus food every day and deliver it to families in need, helping to reduce food waste while supporting the health and well being of our community. We are deeply grateful for the support of city leaders, volunteers, schools, and our grocery partners, whose collaboration makes it possible to build a healthier, more sustainable, and more caring city.

MP Visit Highlights the Power of Food Rescue
Food Link Society was pleased to host Jake Sawatzky, MP for New Westminster, Burnaby, and Maillard Ville, who toured Chateau Deville, an affordable housing site supported by Food Link Society, as well as our Community Kitchen. During his visit, he gained insight into how our food rescue program operates and saw firsthand how
surplus food is carefully sorted, packed into hampers, and distributed to families in need. He expressed his appreciation for the hard work of our volunteers and recognized the vital role Food Link Society plays in rescuing food and strengthening our community.

Community Partnership and Compassion
Dr. Behzad Abdi, President of the Tri City Iranian Cultural Society (TCICS), generously donated the remaining food from his previous business to Food Link Society when it closed. This thoughtful act helped support vulnerable community members and reduce food waste. His contribution also reflects his ongoing commitment to connecting the Iranian community with local charitable organizations in British Columbia. We sincerely appreciate his kindness and leadership.

Kindness Week Visit Recognizes Collaborative Support for Seniors
On occasion of Kindness Week, the Honourable Zoe Royer, Member of Parliament (MP), visited LJ Christmas Apartment, a local seniors’ residence, and met with the residents. During her visit, she expressed her appreciation to the management and staff for their continued care and support of the seniors. She also recognized Food Link Society for providing weekly food support to the residents. Ms. Royer commended the collaboration between the two organizations and highlighted their partnership as an important effort in supporting and improving the daily lives of seniors.

Celebrating Pouya: January’s Volunteer Spotlight
We proudly celebrate Pouya and the incredible spirit he represents as a young volunteer. His enthusiasm, compassion, and commitment show how powerful youth involvement can be in creating real change. Through his experience, we see how volunteering builds confidence, connection, and a deeper understanding of community. Pouya’s voice reminds us that young people are not only the future, but a vital part of the present bringing heart, energy, and hope to those who need it most. We are grateful for his dedication and for all the young volunteers who choose kindness, service, and impact.

From Kelowna Orchards to Our Community Tables
We are grateful to share that 20,316 lbs of fresh Gala apples from a local grower in Kelowna were delivered to Food Link Society through the generous support of Second Harvest. Grown in the heart of British Columbia’s orchard region, this remarkable donation enabled us to distribute nutritious, high-quality fruit to School Districts 43 and 44, as well as to families across our network, expanding access to healthy food while preventing unnecessary waste. Partnerships like this demonstrate the power of collaboration in connecting communities and strengthening local food security.
