School Trustees Tour Food Link Society
At different times, Food Link Society welcomed leaders from School District 43 to two of our program locations. Trustees Carol Brodie and Rosey Manhas toured Chateau Deville, an affordable housing site supported by Food Link Society, and our community kitchen. On a separate visit, Paul McNaughton, Assistant Superintendent, visited the Montgomery Centre to learn more about our community food distribution and food recovery work. Their visit reflected a shared commitment to inclusive education and strengthening support for families and residents across the district.
Smart Solutions, Stronger Communities
Dr. Abeba N. Turi, Associate Professor at University Canada West, specializes in the digital economy, fintech, and emerging technologies. In collaboration with Food Link Society, she applies data science, machine learning, and geospatial analytics to optimize food recovery, serving over 100,000 people annually while reducing waste and CO₂ emissions. Her work demonstrates how technology and compassion can drive meaningful social impact.

Supporting Families at YWCA Como Lake Gardens
We’re pleased to support the YWCA at their Como Lake location in Coquitlam by providing healthy meals to the families and individuals they serve. Food Link Society is dedicated to reducing food insecurity and preventing food waste by collecting surplus food and delivering it to those in need. The YWCA is a longstanding nonprofit committed to advancing gender equity and supporting women and families. Together, these efforts help build a stronger, more inclusive, and supportive community.

Honouring Food Link Society’s Role in Supporting Local Students and Families
Food Link Society is proud to be the 2025 recipient of the Partnership Award from the BC Principals’ and Vice-Principals’ Association. This honour reflects the collective efforts of Food Link Society, the Association, and participating school districts to reduce hunger, strengthen learning, and bring stability to families. Nominated by School District 44, this recognition highlights Food Link’s mission of rescuing surplus food, reducing waste, and ensuring children and families across BC have access to nutritious, dignified meals. In School District 44 alone, our weekly deliveries support over 16,700 students and their families with fresh produce, proteins, dairy, breads, and winter gifts for more than 200 children, thanks to the leadership of Dr. Pius Ryan, Arline Martin, and Tine Parker, who ensure this support reaches those who need it most. We also extend our sincere gratitude to our partners in School District 43, who helped grow a small initiative into a thriving food hub serving families week after week. Leaders such as Nadine Tambellini, Paul McNaughton, and Jeff Stromgren continue to make meaningful change possible. Through strong leadership and meaningful partnerships, Food Link Society delivers recovered food to schools and families in need, helping build healthier communities and ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
