Learning Life Skills Through Rescued Food
We recently received a heartfelt letter from the Special Education Department at School District 44, sharing how Food Link Society’s food recovery program has become an important part of their students’ learning journey.
Throughout the school year, students used rescued ingredients to prepare a variety of meals, including pizza, soup, spaghetti, pancakes, stir fries, muffins, and many more. Along the way, they developed valuable life skills such as communication, teamwork, food safety, confidence, independence, and everyday living skills.
As the educators shared:
“Our students greatly benefit from the program.”
This story is a powerful reminder that rescued food creates opportunities far beyond the dinner table. It helps people learn, grow, build confidence, and strengthen their connection to the community.
We are sincerely grateful to the educators and students at School District 44 for allowing us to share their experience.
