BC Day, held on the first Monday of August since 1974, celebrates British Columbia’s history, culture, and people. It honours Indigenous communities, settlers, and immigrants whose contributions have shaped the province. We joined the celebration by offering games and gifts to visitors who stopped by our booth, creating a
joyful and welcoming atmosphere for all.
The SOYL Youth Program students once again volunteered at the Metro Vancouver Affordable Housing site. Through their involvement, they gained valuable experience and developed a greater appreciation for food preservation and assisting those in need. Their contributions supported our efforts and highlighted the significance of minimizing waste and creating a positive impact within the community.
A WONDERFUL DAY WITH OUR VOLUNTEERS
On August 10, we had a wonderful time with our Food Link Society volunteers at the Blueberry U-Pick event. Surrounded by the beauty of the farm, we spent the afternoon picking fresh, sweet blueberries, enjoying the peaceful scenery, sharing laughs along the way, and celebrating the incredible contributions our volunteers make to the community.
VOLUNTEER APRECCIATION
Hosein has been volunteering with Food Link Society since September In Iran, he worked as a rehabilitation center manager, supporting patients with mental health challenges. Carrying the same caring spirit, he now volunteers as a truck driver, collecting food from stores and delivering it to the distribution centers.
At the end of August, we prepared special gifts for the children of our clients, and it was truly heartwarming to meet them in person. The kids were full of excitement and curiosity, eagerly exploring the surprises inside their gift bags — making the moment even more memorable for everyone involved.
